Why I Chose This Fish
I've always really liked angelfish in general. But once I saw this version, I was blown away by the colors.
The Flame Angelfish checks all the boxes for the type of fish I like to create. It has incredible, bold colors and combines light and dark shades so well. I love the blue trim along the fins and the yellow-orange body.
Once I discovered this fish, I knew it had to be made soon. Now I'm also on the hunt to see one in person at an aquarium!

Scientific Name: Centropyge loricula
-
Habitat: Tropical coral reefs and rocky reef environments, typically among coral branches and crevices that provide shelter.
-
Range: Indo-Pacific, from the western Pacific islands and the Philippines through Indonesia and Papua New Guinea to the Great Barrier Reef, extending eastward into parts of the central Pacific.
-
Typical size: Generally around 3–4 inches (7.5–10 cm) long, with a maximum of about 6 inches (15 cm).
-
Diet: Omnivorous, feeding on algae and small organisms found on reef surfaces, including tiny crustaceans and other invertebrates.
-
Known for: Its fiery orange-red body, vivid yellow-orange center, bold black vertical bars, and striking electric-blue edging along the dorsal and anal fins. The Flame Angelfish is a small member of the marine angelfish family and tends to stay close to shelter among reef crevices. An interesting fact: these fish are protogynous hermaphrodites, meaning they begin life as females and can change into males.
